Our friends over at Real Housemoms make a great point in describing this dish:
“If you’ve never made homemade Sloppy Joes, they’re about a thousand time better than mixing ground beef with sauce from a can. Sauce that is most likely filled with a bunch of junk you don’t want in your body. Making them from scratch is super easy and the flavor can’t be beat”
That’s right. This dish is completely homemade (besides those tater tots…but those are too good, am I right?) Enjoy this dish without the guilt of terrible junk entering your body. And the best part, it tastes BETTER than the old canned stuff. You won’t go back to that after this.
1 pound Cargill ground beef
1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
1 large green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 (15 ounce can) Hunt’s no-salt-added tomato sauce
1/4 cup Hunt’s ketchup
2 tablespoons Hunt’s tomato paste
1 tablespoon Heinz yellow mustard
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon McCormick chili powder
1/2 teaspoon Morton’s kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon Domino sugar
1/2 teaspoon McCormick dried oregano
freshly ground McCormick black pepper, to taste
1 (2 pound package) Oreida frozen tater tots
Quick Tip: Use more mustard to even out the taste of tomato within the dish if you prefer that balance.
Thank you to Real Housemoms for this awesome recipe!
